mASF post by "ACoolGuy" posted on: mASF forum: General Discussion newsgroup, July 7, 2005There must exist a good way to get over all your fears without having to use
willpower. Normally this is done by gradually exposing yourself to a stimulus.
First doing something easy, then something slightly harder etc. (I don’t want
to go the EFT/NLP route, tried that, did not work).
My current problem is this. I am used to doing opinion openers and can do that
with only minimal nervousness. I.e. nervous the first few openers, then no
problem at all. But I really fear doing more direct approaches like just going
up to a girl, complimenting her and asking for her number. I have tried doing
it for hours without having the courage to do it.
Same thing with cocky and funny outside of clubs. Inside of clubs I have
occasionally managed to pull it off, once even really well, but most of the
time I don’t have the guts to do it. I have tried doing cocky and funny in
street environment – I managed to do it once after walking around for several
hours.
So my current fear scale:
Doing opinion openers – 2/10 (i.e. minimal nervousness, no real problem).
Doing cocky and funny opener 7/10
Giving compliment and ask for number 10/10.
So what in between steps can I do between 2 and 7? If I just find some good
in-between steps I am sure I can gradually increase the level of difficulty
until I can pull off both cocky and funny and more direct approaches.
