I think first off you gotta coordinate your head to the notion
of skin-color difference as opposed to social class difference.
I live in a lower-middle to middle-middle income neighborhood of
Jackson, Mississippi, where lots of "regular job" black people
(including some young hot black females) live. Many go off to 9-
to-5 jobs, although you can kinda guess that they aren't as much
professionals as, simply, office workers or even light-industry.
Hospital orderly, warehouse clerk, doctor's front-office
secretary, pet shop floor salesman, is what they SEEM to be.
These women have some shared experiences that I cannot fathom -- college at a traditionally all-black school with all its unknown
fucked-up social conventions and non-national Greek
organizations that are soooo important to them, for example --
and others that seem very mainstream to me. A lot of it, for
these people, is WORKING AT being mainstream, and really not
knowing when they miss the boat; and sometimes knowing they
missed it, but being proud to be outside the mainstream because
they're "Black Pride" sometimes. Etc. You gotta watch these
social-class markers. They're all cool to me, treat me like a
neighbor, but I don't get a sex vibe off them at all. I'm
working on it. Field Reports to come.
Then there are other neighborhoods of town, with low-down crappy
falling-down houses and crack whores and so forth. These
neighborhoods are 99% black, as well. But I don't really go sarging there, and even at the few businesses that seem solvent
-- the fried chicken shacks where people have late-night
parking-lot bust-ups, for example -- the male-female
interactions are very different from what I want to be involved
in. I am not interested in ever beating a woman, or pointing a
gun at a guy, just to "prove" my worth. I realize it works, and
in some ways I think I'm a lot less insecure and needy than the
men who have to have a firearm or a flashy car to prove their
worth, but why bother to engage in that competition? Neither the
grief nor the effort nor the risk is worth any potential reward
-- just some female. Even if she's a jewel (which is unlikely,
given the socio-economic circumstances, educational level,
increased likelihood of drug dependence, etc.), she's JUST A
SINGLE FEMALE.
