I don't think you or PS really get why the canned opener exists in the first
place.
A canned opener like, "Who Lies More, Guys or Girls?", is
1) field tested
2) lots of field reports explaining the positive and negative results
3) lots of advice on how to transition out of the opener and into something new
Compare that body of knowledge to
- Improvise a comment on the spot. -
And then what?
Be yourself? Be a man? Be cool?
Those kind of directions provide no guidance at all.
A canned opener allows a newbie to finally say something to a girl, and when
she responds the way that lots of different mASF - he knows that it's working.
It helps the new guy get used to approaching, and get used to talking to
chicks. He was nervous about approaching and nervous about what to say next.
With a canned opener, that disappears.
After a hundred or so approaches with the same set of openers, he knows how
people respond to the opener, and how people respond to *him*.
It's standard scientific method. You change one variable at a time to
understand the phenomenon.
At some point in a AFC's transition, they reach a point where they don't need
to use the canned openers, or the canned stories, so they use their own
comment/neg hit/compliment/opinion openers. And then instead of canned stories, they know how to make their own personal stories interesting enough to
tell a chick at a bar or club. Thinking they need a hook, eventually they can
improvise.
Eventually you get to the point where you can open anyway you want to. And you
don't need improvised or canned openers, or stories. Right now this is called
"going natural" - but to me it's a misnomer, cause I know naturals, and they
don't operate like ASF.
But it's a journey. Telling someone at the beginning of their game to use
expert level skill is harmful, imo.
