Here I'm going to sum up what state is, how it works, and how to get it.
State = Having enough neurotransmitters in your brain that you can focus on your goal and block out what won't help you. It is the tunnel vision, exhilaration, goal-orientated behaviour, focus, and drive associated with all high achievement, from piano to sports to theories of relativity to picking up girls.
Using drugs that hijack these natural neurotransmitter systems will show you what state is if you don't know how to organically generate it. Cocaine, MDMA and amphetamine will show you what state looks like turned up to 10. However note at that point that you are completely out of control of those chemical processes and are at the mercy of the "state" - in other words there is no release button you can press. This "forced" state is the reason drugs of this nature are so highly addictive - the primitive, natural focus and drive accessible to all of us, which so many people allow to be suppressed by their thinking mind, addiction to approval, and social conditioning, is allowed to be "switched on" by taking a little pill or snorting a line.
It's so easy it'll make you sick.
-Turn off your internal dialogue, or at least entertain the idea for a moment that it does not represent the entirety of you, and does not necessarily have your best interests (or knowledge) at heart.
State = drugs, organically produced, and custom-made for the job at hand. You get this SAME process for any activity requiring focus and drive. Play golf for 20 minutes and you suddenly start getting a "feeling" for the hole. This is the neurotransmitters linking up the necessary parts of your brain into a system capable of processing the task adequately. This is where genius comes from.
This is why I don't use drugs any more, and why I am a lot happier in life now. Removing the resistance of the thinking mind to this extremely natural process is the key to high achievement in any field, including social dynamics.

What State Is
Building Organic State
-Approach the situation for which you would like "state". This will often be a situation your thinking mind fears such as approaching women, or being a man's man around other men (both behaviours require dominance, which requires balls, which requires neurotransmitters to make you DO it).
-You will feel that first pang of something in your abdomen, and a fuzzing sensation in your mind. This is commonly misconceived as "fear". When we reconceptualize it as "My body is preparing me", we can then recognize the neurotransmitter dump, let it HAPPEN instead of resisting it (resistance = fear, fear = resistance to an emotion, emotion = change in neurotransmitters).
-With resistance gone, take a few moments. The chemicals will be rushing into your brain. BREATHE with it. It will feel GOOOOOOD. Breathing feels good and helps you metabolize the neurotransmitters, giving you that tunnel vision, focus and drive. This is IDENTICAL to what the first rush of a cocaine hit feels like.
-Go into the situation and notice how you are now acting more on autopilot and less through your thinking mind which tried to prevent you approaching earlier.
ADDENDUM
-Guys who get good quickly already had this down.
-Once you start practising this, it only takes a couple of days before it starts getting internalized and you start doing it on autopilot (in other words the "blocks" are removed).
-Through this context, you can understand "fear" and use these natural highs to bust through fear every time.
-Knowing you can generate neurotransmitters whenever you like will improve your outlook in life, give you "highs" throughout your day, improve performance, naturally remove fear via this tunnel vision mechanism, and will bring fear in life down through experience (because you will be DOING rather than thinking, and personal experience is always the final arbiter of your reality).
-You can sustain state for several hours. You can also increase the amount of time you can stay in state through exposure to it. However it is not sustainable indefinitely. The come-down from state is what people describe as "tiredness". However you can enter meditation to simulate slow-wave sleep and recover QUICKLY. We are a highly adaptable animal. Try these things out for yourself to either affirm or deny this.
-To start out on the right foot in the morning in your relationship with your own neurotransmitters, do some exercise in the morning to introduce norepinephrine to your brain. I recommend free weights for this. Notice how you are far more fearless and more social that day after doing so. Also notice that this high lasts for several hours.
