Here's a typical scenario:

AFC flirts up HB and asks for her #. She gives him her #. His entire being just swells with hope and expectation - "I got her number! She likes me!" He calls and gets no answer. Tries again in a little while - after all, Mystery says that's ok, right? Still no answer. Now that optimism starts to fade, and the AFC starts coming back to earth. He sends a C/F text hoping to rekindle attraction. No dice.

So he comes to mASF and asks what he should do. Advanced guys tell him to forget it and GFTOW, but that's not what he wants to hear. So he sends the unwitting HB a pissy text about how he must be respected, and he'll give her one more chance to answer. Creeps her out. A month later, he's back asking advice on how to game the same girl over facebook.

- end of scenario -

Guys, this is how most # closes pan out, especially for beginners. Too many guys get one number, assume that it will result in sex, and feel that something's gone terribly wrong when it doesn't.

When in fact, there are a million reasons women flake. Could be anything. Scurry around collecting phone numbers (like I did for a while) and you'll notice that this is typical of # closes. Women give out phone numbers like it's nothing. I guarantee you I could get ten before dinner time - doesn't mean I'd get laid.

Unless you get your hooks in somehow (steal a kiss, instant date, escalate hard, etc.) most numbers will flake. An unscaffolded # close is just not that solid. A # close should be one of several leads you have going - not your one big bet.
