Metaphors help us to understand complex subject matters better. Comparing Pick-Up to a Video Game, as famously done by Mystery and apparently appreciated by many afterwards, will, however, only hinder you in the long run. A successful pick-up doesn’t necessarily consist of a fixed order of “stages” you have to go through. Also, you are not a video game character that has to “level up”, for instance, by practicing a “routine” hundreds of times.

Mystery spoke of three stages: Attraction - Comfort - Seduction, and all have three levels. Then, once you’ve mastered that, you can reach the level above: getting a girlfriend. Fastseduction.com has a help file for newbies where they are supposed to slot themselves in on a ladder of pick-up mastery. Nobody wants to be a WBAFC, but those people most often want to become MPUAs. As a measurement of skill, terms like “lay count” or “approach to lay ratio” are often used.

The field reports board has a distinction between FR, FR+, FR++ and LR, depending on whether you have left the house and pestered girls with rehearsed openers, got a flakey phone number, ended up getting her alone, or eventually gotten your wiener wet. As I have recently learnt, the original Mystery Lounge had a distinction between HJR, BJR and LR (hand job, blow job, vaginal intercourse). I can already hear the proponents of anal sex in club toilets like TVA» shout out loud that there is something wrong here.

The relationship “gurus” tell you that having one girlfriend or one fuck-buddy is not enough. You’ve got to have a harem, a stable or a rotation. MLTRs are the way to go. Everything else is for kids. The obvious next stage is having sex with more than one girl at a time: threesomes, foursomes, x-somes. Some even claim that sex is boring to them if there’s not at least a second one in the room.

Just as Mystery’s model is hugely complicated and unable to account for “deviances” like people who are able to pull girls not just in much less than seven hours but within minutes and sometimes without even talking to them, all the other constructs are equally unhelpful if you want to gain a real understanding of your own preferences and also of higher levels of seduction. (Those higher levels are somewhat spiritual in nature and cannot be reached by doing the same thing over and over.)

The progression ladder itself is problematic. Instead of aiming to become a “MPUA” you should ask yourself what your goals are. Sure, if the last time you had sex “was in 2003 --- and it wasn’t free” like Jon LaJoie’s “Everyday Normal Guy”, then you may want to work on some things. However, if all you care is to become a “guru” when in fact all you want is having a girlfriend, then you are on the best way to become nothing but a tool. What many people deeply involved in the community often not realise is that nobody cares about the number of girls you have slept with, or the number of girls you have to approach in order to have one “success” (a concept to be elaborated on later). Still, many seem to fall in the trap that they think they have to prove themselves in front of others, which is especially tragic if their only audience is a group of men on an internet forum which they will probably never in their life meet. The “naturals” I hang out all have a completely laid back attitude about girls and sex. If it happens, it happens and if not then not.

“Success”, especially when measured in the classical pick-up framework, is a further issue. People who know me or have followed my progress know that I like it fast and kinky. I consider the pinnacle of my pick-up career an instant-pull, where I simply dragged the girl into the toilet after exchanging glances, and the two or three completely non-verbal pulls that were rather drawn out (in terms of minutes) interactions. My fantasies come true when I have such a girl in front of me, kneeling down and sucking my cock, or sitting on the toilet and doing the same. Thus, I was pretty surprised when once a friend of mine commented: “Yeah, and that’s the reason why we in Mystery Method» only arouse the girl in complete isolation. You’ve only gotten blow jobs because of that. Next time you should ... “ I could not believe what I heard. Sure, he only wanted to be helpful, and he quickly got my point that I am somewhat perverted, and that I prefer to have “standard sex” with my girlfriend or “primary”, because I like it much better this way.

Obviously, there is a distinction between a blow job and vaginal intercourse. There certainly is not a clear cut rule applicable to all human beings that says that a BJ requires “less compliance” (some MM-proponents claim this, though). A BJ is sometimes harder to get than vaginal intercourse, and sometimes easier. There are women out there that willingly engage in anything --- as long as you don’t kiss them because this would equal cheating on their partner. Others view the blow job as something much more intimate than vaginal intercourse. I remember one girl that said she only does this when she is in love with the guy. I doubt she would have been any good at it, and, frankly, I did not bother to find out. Lastly, there are girls out there that think (or say) that sucking your cock doesn’t mean that they are cheating on their boyfriend. (I wonder what their boyfriends would have said about that.) In the end it's all a matter of personal morals (on part of the girls) and preferences (on part of the guy), and
I'm perfectly aware of that. In the normal context of human sexuality, though, blowjobs often feature as part of foreplay. Thus I can see where this comes from.

However, the deeper question is: how can one scheme imposed on you by a forum administrator classify the way you view sexual encounters or male/female interactions? The only thing that should guide are your desires. Some weeks ago, when Cosy was visiting me, we were joking about how a guy that got off on pissing into a girl’s mouth should label his field reports. Only part of this is scathing criticism of this cla. Call it juvenile if you want, but the fact remains that everybody gets off something else. In an ideal world where all of us had the ability to consistently get what we want, a classification like the one on mASF or Mystery’s Lounge would thus be completely unneeded. You would instead only need X and O or 0 and 1, success or failure, solely dependent on your own measurement of success.

On a more “philosophical” level it can be argued that the strict classification of field reports is an expression of a suppressed view of sexuality. Vaginal intercourse is the one and only goal, and everything else is a failure to some degree. Maybe the founders of the community were much stronger adherents of common (Christian?) norms of morality than we all thought? Blowjobs don’t count, and anal sex --- we’ll let’s better not mention it at all!

On the other hand, a “seducer” (in my use of the word) is someone who follows his own desires and instincts, no matter what they are. He will be his own guide, and if he discovers an “immoral” side of his personality. In fact, it is easy to see that you could get a great deal of satisfaction of simply teasing girls and making them beg you to take her number. This is just one instance, but there are so many goals you could pursue (and it is in fact great fun to play around and find out what your “level” of game allows you to do), that it can become almost secondary to “get laid.”

After all, after having had sex with dozens of girls it does get kind of old, which is especially true if you don’t vary your game and keep doing the same stuff over and over. It’s probably as numbing as working in a factory. I don’t want to bash MM, but I could only shake my head whenever I bumped into guys in London that proclaimed their game consisted of running the same “routine stack” on every girl, collecting about ten numbers a night, and hoping for a day2 to materialise. I can’t even imagine how this could be fun. Can you?

If you are looking for the “next level” in your development, then maybe it’s time to find out what you really want.
