1) Only pick masculine characters to mimick. Self-effacement is NOT ALLOWED. I.e. don't pick Chandler from Friends. Verbally belittling yourself is COMPLETELY BANNED in pickup.

I recommend Hank Moody from Californication, and also the guys from Entourage are extremely hilarious. Ari Gold from that show is great.

2) Watch the shows, and spot when one of the guys says something very funny. Witty comebacks are the best to choose, since opportunities to use them will arise frequently in the field during playful banter with girls and AMOGs.

Pause the show after the amusing line. Picture yourself in a pickup setting, and generate mental situations where you could appropriately use the line. Picture yourself delivering the line. Run through it again with new situations and modify the line accordingly. You are not learning memorization per se, you are learning a) When it is RIGHT to deliver said line, and b) How to generate similar lines based on CONTEXT, not based on exact word-for-word repetition.

3) Due to mammalian limbic system pattern-matching, next time you're out in the field and a similar situation arises, the line will POP INTO YOUR HEAD.

After practising this, pattern-matching will allow you to make up your own lines in a similar style based on CONTEXT.

This is also how to steal jokes from stand-up comedy, which I also recommend, but choose DRY comedians rather than slapstick-style stuff.

4) DELIVER ALL LINES DEADPAN AND DO NOT REACTION SEEK. If it bombs, choose not to care, then move the conversation forward.

Humour has its place in pickup, and that place is described thus:

1) Never self-effacing.
2) For your own amusement first and foremost.
3) Done from a position of power and authority - in other words what you say is what you say and you don't care if no one else likes it. This means the humour will lend itself to being dry, and you will NOT look to see if they laughed afterwards.

I appreciate however that this latter rule will be broken when learning this skill. That is true of most "DON'T"s in pickup.

Ignoring these last three rules is where most guys ruin their game with "Cocky & Funny" (which may as well be renamed "Cocky & Gay" since that's how most wannabes end up doing it).

Guys will self-efface, not be hard enough on the girl, then reaction-seek and laugh to cover their own insecurity about whether the joke was "good enough" (doing it to please HER instead of yourself). This process is due to SOCIAL VERBAL FILTERING which I talk more about in my post "How To Be A Prick" over in Advanced right now.
