Someone recently turned me onto a blog I didn't know existed:

http://www.hotchickswithdouchebags.com

It was a revelation for me.

Since I found the community, I interpreted "peacocking" as meaning "dress well." For me, "dressing well" meant looking classy and fun, with a little bit of flair. When I would go out, I'd make a point of wearing stylish button up shirts, designer jeans, and classy leather shoes. I wanted to be just slightly better dressed than everyone else in the room without looking like I was seeking attention. This was my way of "peacocking" without "overdoing it" and looking "clownish."

I used to look at the stereotypical "club guys" and laugh at them for looking like "fags" or "douchebags." My friends would all do it, too. We'd make fun of guys in Ed Hardy shirts with manicured facial hair, tattoos, wallet chains, tribal tattoos, etc. The more peacocked a guy was, the more we'd joke about him. Surely, girls could see that we were classier and just all around cooler and more confident than those try-hard douchebags, right?

However, this was only my own insecurities at play. When a guy makes fun of another guy for just looking "like a douchebag," it's no different from a girl making fun of another girl for looking "like a skank."

What that person is really saying is "you look more sexually appealing than I do, so I feel threatened and I'm going to try to tear you down with an insulting label."

That's what "douchebag" really comes down to: looking and acting more sexually appealing and confident than a typical guy.

A few weeks back, on the advice I received in another thread (particularly from BradP), I decided to experiment. I shaved my head completely bald. I started going out in a tight fitting Velvet Underground t-shirt that shows off some chest fat and love handles that made me self conscious.

At first I felt awkward and thought I'd made a horrible mistake. However, though I had fewer women opening me, I found that the responses I started seeing once I approached were fantastic! Even guys started treating me differently, deferring to me, treating me with more respect, mistaking me for a bouncer or MMA fighter at times.

In short, I looked more like the "douchebags" I'd spent years putting down, and this helped me dramatically.

Based on my experience for about the past month, I now say that if you want to pick up hot girls in a casual club environment, risk douchebag.

"Risking douchebag" shows that you and these types of girls are on the same team. The tight Ed Hardy t-shirt is the male equivalent of the slinky short club dress. The tribal tattoo is no different from the "skank badge" so many girls sport across the small of their back. This is a fashion sense, however tacky, that shows off unashamed, unapologetic sexual and physical confidence. It shows that you are a fun, sexual creature, just like them. It already gives you a little bit of rapport on sight.

Telling a guy to "peacock" is vague and can mean a lot of different things. In a casual club or for street PU, risk douchebag.
