There are a few mantras in pickup that are misplaced and confusing to guys who substitute them for real life experience. These are not directed at anyone in particular, just some I have observed in the last year or so.
1. "When all else fails, escalate."
You need something to escalate before you can escalate, otherwise you are just making a feeble and desperate attempt at grab-ass or an awkward kiss.
The thing you need to escalate is attraction, connection and trust. This is what a masculine man does. He lives a life of abundance, and is socially savvy enough to calibrate situations.
What about cavemanning? Cavemanning is about having fun, not a jump off point to escalate because it excuses any knowledge of social settings, and alleviates any responsibility of one's actions.
2. "______________ is not important in pickup."
What fills in the blank? Looks, money, a job, attraction, connecting, etc. Usually the person who is making the statement is hoping that it is not important because in his mind, it doesn't serve him well or he thinks he falls short in that regard. If he can get more people to agree with him, it will reinforce these beliefs so he doesn't have to face them.
This type of thinking just creates blind spots that get harder to correct itself. It helps to have someone around you that can be honest with you so you don't take it personally.
3. "Women want sex; I want sex--what is the problem?"
The problem is she doesn't want sex from you. Maybe not now; maybe not ever. Just because you want to fuck her, and she wants to fuck guys, doesn't automatically mean you're getting laid no matter what dumb ass thing you do or say to her.
The best guys will get the most desirable women. The rest of the guys will be Jerk Off Artists (JOAs) until they get their shit together.
People on here make too much of the whole "don't hide the fact that you want sex" spiel. Believe me, women know that you want sex. It's no secret. The cat's out of the bag! Now how about learning how to talk women, understand them, have fun with them, make them feel good in your presence. Then *she'll* want to have sex with you....finally.
